Historical Foundations of Visual Technology Workbook

160 pages, published by Thames and Hudson; ISBN 0-500-30102-6

Colours: Making and Using Dyes and Pigments by Francois Delamare and Bernard Guineau
is a compact, colorful, and highly insightful source of information on dyes, lakes, pigments, mineral,
animal and vegetable colorants, colorant manufacturing processes, and the history of colors and
their naming. Covering the span of ancient history to modern times in its 160 small-format pages,
it is easily and enjoyably read.

Note: The American edition of this book was entitled Colors: The Story of Pigments and Dyes
and was published by Harry N. Abrams. That edition is no longer in print. Used copies are available
but are something of a collector's item. Used copies are selling for over $60! Not to worry. I bought
and donated 10 new copies to the DePaul Library and you can read it there at the reserve desk.
And the British edition of this book is available at the following directly-linked web page for under $10,
but with several weeks delivery lead time, so order early if you would like to have your own copy!
